Multicultural Children’s Book Day

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2023 (1/26/22) is in its 10th year! This non-profit children’s literacy initiative was founded by Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen; two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural books and authors on the market while also working to get those books into the hands of young readers and educators.

Ten years in, MCBD’s mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves continues. Read about our Mission & History HERE.

🎒🏫🍎 Why do we even need a Black back-to-school boo 🎒🏫🍎 Why do we even need a Black back-to-school books list?

When books featuring Black kids are automatically included in back-to-school roundups, library lists and bookshelves then there will no longer be a need for me to create a separate post to highlight books that feature Black children doing the very normal thing of going to school.

Wishing everyone that has started or is about to start a wonderful season!

I'm going to miss how it transformed our city into a 6 week party. Watch parties everywhere, free concerts, community events and celebration vibes everywhere. I wish we could have gotten out more. But really proud of how our city showed the world what we could do!

If your little readers have caught soccer fever keep the party going after Sunday's final with these books for every age group.
